Winter Camping Supplies
Most people take their camping trips during the warm months of summer or even late Spring or early Fall. Others like the idea of roughing it during the colder months of Winter. If you are looking to camp during the winter there are some special considerations you need to make regarding your camping supplies.
Your choice of a camping tent will differ from one you use during the warmer months. You will want to choose a color of tent that will soak up the suns warmth. You will also want to look for insulted tents that will keep the heat in. You should look for tents that can easily be staked into frozen ground. It should have reinforced seams that will not rip open under harsh winds. There are special tents made just for winter camping, usually called four season tents, that you should seek out in order to maintain winter camping comfort.
A heater is a new supply that you will need to bring along on a winter camping trip. You should find one designed for use in a tent and one that has a strong power supply so it will run as long as you need it to. You also need to check how large of an area it will heat so your whole tent area is heated. Another concern is safety, so be sure to check that the heater you chose has good safety precautions built into it.
You also might want to consider an air mattress or some form of mattress pad. The ground holds in the cold and sleeping directly on the ground, even though you are in a sleeping bag, can still be very chilly. You should look for sleeping bags that are well insulated. You might want to check for sleeping bags that say they help retain heat.
Finally, do not forget your winter gear. You will need gloves, hats, scarves and a heavy coat to protect you from the winters cold. You may also want to find those special warmers that are sold to slip inside shoes and gloves to keep you hands and feet warm and protected.
When you have made the decision to try winter camping it is very important that you pay attention to the special needs you will have as a camper. Getting the right supplies can make all the difference between a good trip and a bad trip.
